How to Grow and Care for Philodendron Brasil

Look no further if you’re looking for a plant to bring a pop of color to your indoor space. The Philodendron Brasil is known for its vibrant green and yellow foliage that can sprawl beautifully out of a hanging pot or along a trellis. Native to Central and South America the Philodendron Brasil prefers a warm, humid climate, however, given its hardiness and low maintenance traits, this fun hanging plant can do very well indoors- anywhere in the world. This dashing plant is also relatively easy to propagate, meaning you’ll have some pleased family and friends on birthdays and special occasions.

LIGHT

To keep your Philodendron Brasil vibrant and happy, place your hanging pot in bright indirect sunlight. This will allow your plant’s photosynthesis process and avoid damage or burning on the leaves. A Philodendron Brasil plant will tolerate low light, however, this will slow down growth and vibrancy of foliage.

WATER

The Philodendron Brasil is one of the more forgiving indoor plants and will tolerate dry spells better than overwatering. Once every few months I like to add a liquid fertilizer to my water such as Seasol. This just gives your indoor plants an added boost of nutrients to help growth and ward off pests. Do make sure you read the instructions on the fertilizer container as too much can result in leaf burn and damage the soil micronutrients.

SOIL

Like with many tropical plants the Philodendron Brasil likes to have slightly acidic to neutral soil and prefers well-draining soil. A potting mix that contains perlite, pine bark, and [eat moss will make your hanging plant happy. I find that most hardware and plant stores have at least one or two pre-pack soil mixtures tailored to tropical plants. So if you are adding a couple of tropical plants to your indoor collection, perhaps a pre-mix bag can save you some time and money.

The Philodendron Brasil is a fun addition to any indoor plant collection and given its diverse growth form, it can be enjoyed in a hanging pot, growing up a trellis, or trained across a wall. This plant is a great plant for anyone new to growing plants indoors due to its forgiving tendencies.
